Hmmm…
I had to leave the classroom for about an hour today for a meeting with an advisor, so the school booked supply. I left her R.E. work to do with the children, and we had done the build up for the lesson already. When I came back into the classroom, the whole class was sitting on the carpet, all the children looking like little angels, and listening to a poem. Very nice, I was impressed. The I looked up at the board, on which I had written the opening sentence for the children’s independent work, to find that she had added two sentences of her own underneath, neither of which came from my planning, and one of which wasn’t really relevant at all to the task. O…K…
After school one of the TAs came up to me and asked if my class had been wild when I got them back in the afternoon. I said that they had been pretty calm actually. She was very surprised as she had popped into my room during the afternoon. She found the boys playing Tag on the carpet, and the girls playing on my laptop and the interactive whiteboard, whilst the supply teacher stood at the front of the class saying “Please be quiet! This is supposed to be a lesson about love!” It sounds like my class had a whale of a time. I didn’t have the guts to look at the work they’d actually done in their books before I left school tonight but I’m going to have to face it tomorrow!
In other news, I am very excited about some writing my Literacy group have done this half term. I have been really pushing them to use adjectives and describe people and places really well to move up in their writing levels. They have produced some fantastic writing for me, writing that absolutely stunned me by its brilliance. I am currently stripping down a display in the classroom to put their work up. I am so very proud of them… it feels totally like my achievement though! I am proud of them and the writing they have done, but I am totally amazed that I have managed to teach them to do that!
